Hiking in the Central Adirondacks include hikes along the NY 30 and NY 28N corridor. The state lands in this region include Wilcox Lake Wild Forest, Siamese Ponds Wilderness, Blue Mountain Wild Forest, Sargent Ponds Wild Forest, Blue Ridge Wilderness, Hudson Gorge Primitive Area and Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest. The state also purchased land in 2013 called the OK Slip Falls Tract, Essex Chain of Lakes Tract and Indian River Tract.
There are numerous state campgrounds in the Central Adirondack region that can be used as your base camp. You'll find Lake Eaton, Lake Harris, Forked Lake, Lake Durant, Indian Lake Islands, Lewey Lake, Sacandaga and Northampton Beach State Campgrounds.
