Hiking in Adirondack Park Central Adirondacks Siamese Ponds Wilderness Clear Pond
|
Clear Pond is reached via a short and easy one mile hike to a campsite on the scenic shore of the small pond. The start of the trail is reached via a maze of side roads in the outskirts of the small hamlet of Indian Lake. The pond is located in the overly popular Siamese Ponds Wilderness of the Adirondacks.
The most difficult part of this hike might be finding the start of the trail for some. The one mile hike is a well marked, easy walk in a beautiful forest that ends at a campsite on the shore of the pond. A herd path continues another couple of hundred of feet to another campsite. There is an elevation gain of about 220 feet on this hike. Look below for some maps and a video of this great hike.
Directions: From the hamlet of Indian Lake, take NY 30 south. Turn left on County Route 4 aka Big Brook Road. Turn left on Starbuck Road. Starbuck Road turns into Lakeview Road. At the end of the road, reach Wilderness Lane. The trail starts across from this junction. There is some parking along the shoulder of the road. The GPS coordinates are N43 44.096 W74 13.088 for those who have a GPS devise. If you turn right and follow Wilderness Lane to the end of the road, there is a large parking area as well as the start of the John Pond Trail.
