Hiking in Adirondack Park Central Adirondacks Wilcox Lake Wild Forest Little Joe Pond
|
Located in Wilcox Lake Wild Forest, Little Joe Pond has no official hiking trails that lead to this small pond. However there are two unofficial routes to the pond. Little Joe Pond can be found along the NY 8 corridor in the Central Adirondacks. It is about a 1.5 mile hike to the scenic pond that is very popular with fisherman.
The start of the main herd path that travels to the pond is located along NY 8 about 2.25 miles northeast of the Georgia Brook Trailhead or 1.3 miles southwest of the Oregon Trail (Cod Pond Trailhead). There is no DEC sign marking the start of the trail. This hike is definitely a bushwhack and you should be very prepared.
You will cross the Moose Mountain Trail at some point on this direct route to Little Joe Pond (shown on the maps below). The other route is hiking down from Cod Pond along a very faint herd path which is a more difficult bushwhack to reach the pond. There are at least two primitive campsites on Little Joe Pond.
