The North Country National Scenic Trail is a work in progress in New York state.  Although much progress has been made on its completion in New York, there are still gaps to be finished.  Within New York there are numerous sections of the NCT which could easily make this page as one of the best.

This page is a work in progress and we'll be adding more "Best of NY" sections of the North Country Trail.  We would like to hear your opinions on what should be included as the "Best of NY".  If you have a section of the North Country Trail that you feel should be included, please email me at northcountrytrail@cnyhiking.com. 

What constitutes the best of a trail?  It could be a fantastic view, multiple views, a scenic spot, a unique area, a well maintained section of trail or just a favorite section of trail.  How long should the section be to be considered "Best of NY"?  It can be as short or as long as you want it to be.

Some could say that the whole North Country Trail should be listed as "Best of NY" since it is a National Scenic Trail.  That could be true, but this page is for those hikers looking for a new special section to explore.  Parts of the North Country Trail do coincide with the Finger Lakes Trail.

Living in Central New York, some may not realize that a National Scenic Trail actually runs through Onondaga County.  The next time your at Highland Forest County Park, look for the kiosk and the blue blazes of the North Country Trail.  Explore and enjoy this National Scenic Trail.
