Oswego County is known more for it's snow storms measured in feet and snowmobiles rather than hiking. There are numerous locations in the county you can explore by hiking, snowshoeing or cross country skiing. Oswego County is located north of Syracuse, NY and it's population is roughly 110,000.

In 2007 parts of the county received ten feet of lake effect snow over a 12 day period in February.  The county seat is located in the city of Oswego.  The highest point in Oswego County is 1730 feet located in the Tug Hill Plateau on property owned by the Mad River Club near the borders of Lewis and Jefferson Counties.

The 9000+ acre Winona State Forest has over 30 miles of trails to explore and is a very popular outdoor recreational location in Oswego County as well as Jefferson County
