Hiking in Oswego County
New York State Lands
Hall Island State Forest is located on the southern shores of the Salmon River Reservoir and is very popular for primitive camping, hiking, biking, fishing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
According to the DEC map below, there are numerous trails within this scenic state forest. When we explored this state forest in early fall 2009, we did find a few trails, however, the trails did not seem like they were maintained. The old forest roads can be followed for those looking to explore this beautiful state forest. Look below for a few pictures and a video of Hall Island State Forest.
This large state forest is located near the very popular Salmon River Falls Unique Area. The main access points are along County Route 17 to the east and Pipeline Rd/Dam Road to the west.
Directions: From Altmar take County Route 22 then right onto Pipeline Road. Road turns into Dam Road. At big curve there is a parking area. From Williamstown take County Route 17. Prior to fishing parking area near County Route 27 junction, there is a turn off and a small parking area.
