The 71,133 acre Lake George Wild Forest is located in the southeastern section of Adirondack Park in the towns of Bolton, Chester, Hague, Horicon, Lake George, Lake Luzerne, Queensbury and Warrensburg in Warren County and the towns of Dresden, Fort Ann, and Putnam in Washington County.  Its boundary is generally on the north by the Warren County line, on the west by the Hudson River, and on the south and east by the Adirondack Park boundary.

This area is one of the popular sections of the Adirondacks and with over 100 miles of hiking trails it is extensively visited by many outdoor adventurers all year round. On the western side of Lake George you'll find hiking adventures in the Tongue Mountain Range.  On the eastern side the main popular trailheads include Pike Brook Road, Hogtown, Shelving Rock Road, Sly Pond Road and Pilot Knob.  Look below for many hiking adventures in Lake George Wild Forest. 

There are five state campgrounds located in the vicinity of the wild forest.  You'll find Lake George Battlefield Campground nearly in the village of Lake George.  Lake George Islands Campground is a boat only access campground. Luzerne Campground is on Fourth Lake along NY 9N west of Lake George. Hearthstone Point Campground is just north of the village of Lake George.  Rogers Rock Campground is located on Lake George, south of Ticonderoga.
