Sand Lake is located in Ferris Lake Wild Forest in the southwestern Adirondacks off Powley-Piseco Road in Hamilton County. The short 0.3 mile trail leads to the outlet of the lake and a campsite on Sand Lake. The start of the trail is actually a designated campsite along Powley-Piseco Road.  There are three campsites at this pull off from the main road. The trail is two miles from NY 10 and the GPS coordinates are N43 21.867 W74 34.754 for those who have a GPS device.

You should see a well defined trail leaving to the left of the furthest campsite away from the road. The start of the trail is extremely eroded and is marked with blue markers. You will encounter an extremely muddy area about half way into the hike that has a boardwalk to get you over the mud. The trail ends near the outlet of the lake where there is a campsite. This is a really easy hike that everyone in the family should be able to enjoy. There are no paths that go around the lake that we saw.  Look below for a map.

For more information on this hike we suggest purchasing the Adirondack Central Trails Map Pack from the Adirondack Mountain Club.
