Hiking in Broome County

Whether visiting one of the two state parks, the numerous state forests or one of the county parks, you'll find great places to explore in Broome County. The county is located in the Southern Tier of New York, with Binghamton as the county seat.
The population of the county according to the 2000 census was 200,536 which was a decline of over 5% from the 212,160 that lived in the county during the 1990's. The estimated population for the county in 2008 was 195,018.
The highest elevation is Slawson Hill with an elevation of 2087 feet in the Town of Sanford. The hill is located on private property located in the northeastern part of the county, near the border with Chenango County. The hill is located nearby Melondy Hill State Forest.
