This is a very popular 5.9 mile hike that is on private land and on state land in Kennedy State Forest. This loop hike utilizes the 3.5 miles of orange blazed Spanish Loop Trail as well as 2.4 miles of the North Country Trail, which includes a half mile road walk. This loop trail is part of the Finger Lakes Trail System. This loop utilizes the North Country Trail and Spanish Loop Trail. 

There is a 782 elevation gain for this moderate loop hike. Stay on the trails, especially on PRIVATE LAND. This area is also heavily hunted during hunting season. Please take precautions or avoid hiking during hunting season. Look below for directions, a map and detailed description of this very popular hike. The Spanish Loop Trail is part of the Finger Lakes Trail System. The North Country Trail travels 4600 miles from North Dakota to Crown Point, NY and is one of two National Scenic Trails that travel in New York, the Appalachian Trail being the other.

Orange Blaze of the Spanish Loop Trail

Directions:  From Dryden take NY 392 East and right on W Meeting House Rd, then right on Daisy Hollow Rd.  There is a parking area where the power lines cross the road.  From Virgil take NY 392 West then left on W Meeting House Rd, then right on Daisy Hollow Rd. The GPS coordinates of the parking area is . There is another parking area to the north off Daisy Hollow Road. GPS is N42 28.235 W76 13.880.

Parking area on Daisy Hollow Rd. GPS N42 27.792 W76 13.944 Follow the white blazed North Country Trail to the bank of Rowland Creek. Turn left at the triple orange blazes & trail sign, follow the orange blazed Spanish Loop Trail.

0.1 1391 feet

Cross Daisy Hollow Road and enter tree farm. Soon reach junction with blue blazed Irvin Trail on right.

0.4 1527 feet

Junction with yellow blazed Eric's Path on right.

0.6 1661 feet

Junction with blue blazed Irvin Trail. Trail Register.

0.8 1714 feet

Cross gas & power lines and soon reach last junction of Irvin Trail on left.

1.0 1774 feet

Cristina Springs

1.1 1738 feet

Cross under power lines.

1.4 1779 feet

Junction of the blue blazed Tiny Pond Spur Trail on right.  Travels just over 200 feet to a small shallow pond.

1.5 1762 feet

Reach paved Adams Road and turn left following road. No blazes until Owego Hill Rd.

1.7 1785 feet

Turn left on seasonal dirt Owego Road. Follow dirt road.  Following orange blazes again

1.9 1769 feet Turn right off road and enter woods.
2.1 1666 feet After a descent, cross the scenic Enrique Creek. Crossing can be difficult during times of high water.
2.3 1716 feet Pass a mossy spring then ascend, sometimes steeply as you leave the creek area.
2.6 1862 feet Cross an abandoned old road and soon pass under powerlines.
3.3 1970 feet Reach the junction of the white blazed North Country Trail. Trail register. Turn left and follow white blazes.
3.5 2031 feet

Reach the summit of Owego Hill.

3.7 1928 feet

Cross seasonal dirt Owego Hill Road. Still following white blazes.

4.2 1697 feet

Junction of the Stockholm Cutoff Trail on right. Trail travels 500 feet to the Swedish Loop Trail.

4.4 1657 feet Two Creek Campsite, cross Rowland Creek and then reach the junction of the blue blazed Swedish Loop Trail.
4.7 1573 feet Cross small stream.
5.0 1527 feet Trail register.
5.4 1535 feet

Pass DEC Parking Area and soon reach Daisy Hollow Rd. GPS N42 28.235 W76 13.880 Turn left and follow road.

5.9 1403 feet

Reach parking area on Daisy Hollow Rd and the end of this loop hike.
