Palmer Hill is located just north of the Catskills off NY 28. This 235 acre area is New York City DEP Recreational Lands and features 3.1 miles of hiking trails located in forest as well as open fields. There are three total trails within the Palmer Hill Trail System with an access trail and two loop trails. The trails offer nice views of the northern most Catskill Mountains.

There are many opportunities in the NYC DEP recreational lands. The NYC DEP protects the NYC water supply. Many of New York City's reservoirs and watershed lands are open to the public for fishing, boating, hiking and other outdoor recreation activities. Most are available without a permit, however some do require a NYC Watershed Permit to enter. There is a PDF list of locations with maps here.

The access trail travels 0.6 miles from the parking area, which takes hikers to an old farmstead. There is an Upper Meadow Loop Trail of 1.0 miles and the Lower Meadow Loop Trail of 1.5 miles. These trails are well maintained by the Catskill Mountain Club and can be enjoyed by everyone in your family. This is a great little trail system to explore if you are in the northwestern area of the Catskills.

Directions: Parking is available at a marked scenic overlook on Finkle Road, just off NY 28 south of the town of Andes. The GPS coordinates of the parking area is N42 11.710 W74 44.605.
