Hiking in Onondaga County Fiddlers Green
|
Located along a scenic stretch of Butternut Creek in the small hamlet of Jamesville in the Town of Dewitt, you'll find Fiddlers Green Town Park. The park is popular for fishing, however you can explore the well maintained hiking trails that wind along scenic Butternut Creek. Park improvements in 2009 included creating hiking trails, constructing a kiosk, adding memorial benches, picnic tables and building two small parking areas.
There are about one mile of hiking trails to explore. The trails aren't marked, however they are easy to follow and it's nearly impossible to get lost in this small park. Although Jamesville Road is nearby, the noise from Butternut Creek nearly drowns out the noise from the road. Look below for a map, a few pictures and a video from our visit. There are trails that we did not include on the map that lead toward the creek that are fishermen paths. We'd recommend this park as a leg stretcher on your way to Clark Reservation State Park or Pratts Falls County Park.
Directions: I-481 to Exit 2, Take Jamesville Road south (toward Jamesville). Go under low 11 foot railroad bridge and soon a left on Solvay Road. The parking area is on the right immediately after crossing the bridge over Butternut Creek. This is the lower parking area. The GPS coordinates are N42 59.949 W76 04.316 for the lower parking area and N42 59.923 W76 04.259 for the upper parking area which is further up the hill on Solvay Road.
