Catskill 3500 Club
|
Below is the complete list of the mountains in the Catskill Park that consist of the "3500 Club", meaning that each of the mountains below are at least 3500 feet high. This "club" is similar to the Adirondack 46ers. The Catskill 3500 Club was founded in 1962, to increase interest in hiking in the Catskills. Membership is open to all hikers, who have climbed on foot each of the 35 Catskill peaks above 3500 feet in elevation.
Those wishing to become members must climb all 35 Catskill High Peaks and, in a departure from the requirements of most other such clubs, climb Slide, Blackhead, Balsam and Panther mountains again in winter, which is defined by the Club's by-laws as the period from December 21 to March 21 regardless of the actual occurrences of the winter solstice and vernal equinox in particular years.
The Catskill 67 are the next highest peaks in the Catskills, of which 65 are over 3,000 feet in elevation. These peaks are featured in a hiking guide, The Catskill 67, a recommended book from the ADK Mountain Club. Look below for the list of the 3500 club Mountains.
