Hiking in Onondaga County Bear Trap Creek Trail
|
Bear Trap Creek Trail is located in the town of Salina just north of Syracuse and runs 1.6 miles from 7th North Street (across from Pilot Travel Center) to the Mattydale Plaza. This eight foot wide paved trail was built during the I-81 improvements in the 1980's. Running between Bear Trap Creek and busy I-81 as well as crossing the New York State Thruway on a bridge, it can get real noisy, but offers a nice paved trail, free from cars. Bikes & walkers share this path.
If you can forget that there is a busy highway nearby, this is a very nice walk with a few nice views of Bear Trap Creek along the way. There is even an area just north of the bridge over the Thruway that could be a nice "unknown" small park. Looks to be a nice out of the way spot to put down a blanket and have a picnic. Below are a few pictures, a video and map of this trail.
