Hiking in Otsego County New York State Lands Basswood Pond
|

Basswood Pond State Forest occupies 711 acres in Otsego County near Cooperstown, NY in the town of Burlington. There is a day use area with picnic tables, grills, accessible paved trail, accessible privy and an overlook on a pond located on Conservation Road.
There are about five miles of marked hiking trails located in the state forest. You could create a nice figure eight loop hike with the trails. We only briefly hiked on a couple of the trails and they did look to be somewhat maintained and used. There are two trail maps below. The topo map is an estimated tracks of the trails.
Basswood Pond State Forest is a great place to visit and create your own adventure. It's one of those remote locations that no one knows about. Take a drive, visit and you won't be disappointed. Look below for some pictures and a video of the state forest.
