Robert H. Treman State Park is an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its signature highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115 foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. This is one of those parks that you'll want to visit over and over again. We do!

Campers can choose from tent or RV sites or cabins. Enjoy nine miles of hiking trails, including a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail / Finger Lakes Trail or swim in a stream fed pool beneath a waterfall. Swimming is allowed in the life guarded area only.  This is another great state park to visit for all the incredible scenic views.  Even the swimming area is surrounded by scenic views!

There are two entrances to this state park. The lower entrance includes the campground and swimming area. The upper entrance includes the old mill as well as the best starting point for the gorge trail to Lucifer Falls. Both entrances have access to the North Country Trail / Finger Lakes Trail plus the other park trails. There is a rather large playground on the lower park.

Directions
NY 13, five miles south of Ithaca, on NY 327. GPS coordinates for the Lower Park Entrance is N42 24.166 W76 32.896 and the Upper Park Entrance GPS coordinates are N42 24.464 W76 35.919 for those with a GPS devise.

Suggested Hikes:

RIM & GORGE TRAIL LOOP (4.5 miles)

From the parking area near the swimming area (Lower Park Entrance GPS N42 24.166 W76 32.896), head across the pedestrian bridge over Enfield Creek.  Turn right onto the camping road and head toward the cabins.  At either Cabin 8 or 9 (can't remember) there is a sign on the cabin "Rim Trail".  Turn here and head steeply up the stairs.  Soon there is a nice view of the swimming area that's worth stopping to enjoy as you take a short break.

Follow the Rim Trail until the end at the upper parking area and then turn right onto the Gorge Trail.  Take a break at one of the picnic tables in the area.  There is an old mill in the parking lot area with bathrooms and a view of waterfalls from Fish Kill Creek worth checking out. Follow the Gorge Trail all the way back to the parking area.  Once you pass the "cross over trail", the crowds with thin and you might be all by yourself as you make your way back to the lower park's parking area.

There are a lot of up and downs on this moderate hike, including some very steep sections (especially the Cliffside Stairs on the Rim Trail).  Total elevation change is over 500 feet. See the map below.

LUCIFER FALLS LOOP

From the upper parking area (GPS N42 24.464 W76 35.919) take the Gorge Trail to the Crossover Trail. Cross Enfield Creek on the nice footbridge and turn right onto the Rim Trail. Soon you will reach the "Stairway To Heaven" aka Cliffside Stairs, an impressive stone staircase that will left you from the bottom of the gorge back up to the rim of the gorge. Once on top there is the Lucifer Falls Overlook. Soon reach the junction of the white blazed North Country Trail / Finger Lakes Trail. Stay right and follow the white blazes back down to the parking area.
