County New York State Parks Kanik Nature Trail
|
The former Calcium Trail was renamed the Kanik Nature Trail in 2010 in honor of James R. Kanik, who was the first chairman and CEO of the Development Authority of the North Country. The DANC manages this 2.1 mile trail built on the right of way of a sewer line that connects Fort Drum with Watertown. The trail surface features crushed gravel and is a popular walking and biking trail off US 11 in Calcium, NY.
The main parking area, located off US 11, features picnic tables and a kiosk. The GPS coordinates of the parking area on US 11 is N44 00.760 W75 52.959 for those who have a gps devise in their vehicle. We recommend purchasing a gps devise like a Garmin nüvi 52LM 5-Inch Portable Vehicle GPS with Lifetime Maps (US)
for your vehicle to assist in finding trailheads.
This trail is on our to do list and will have more info and a trail map.
