Hiking in Adirondack Park Northwestern Adirondacks Grass River Wild Forest Twin Falls
|
Located along Tooley Pond Road in the Grass River Wild Forest of the northwestern region of Adirondack Park are the Grass River Twin Falls. The 0.1 mile hike to the falls is located on private property and we can't recommend hiking to the falls. A well defined path suggests that many folks have made the short trek to view the Grass River Twin Falls.
These two waterfalls are anything but twins. The fall on the left is barely moving in the summer months and is set back in the trees, making it a bit more difficult to view (see if you can pick it out in the above panorama). The waterfall on the right is actually called "Stewarts Rapids" and is more of a waterfall than rapids. This 100 foot wide, 18 foot waterfall is the main attraction of the "twins".
There is parking along the shoulder of Tooley Pond Road of this unmarked trailhead. The GPS coordinates are N44 20.071 W75.01.590 if you have a GPS devise in your vehicle. That's how I was able to find this waterfall as this was not an easy hike to find. If you don't have a GPS in your vehicle, then we recommend buying one! Check out this top selling Garmin nüvi 52LM 5-Inch Portable Vehicle GPS with Lifetime Maps (US)
for your vehicle. The trail is well defined, although not marked to the edge of the Grass River where you'll have a nice view of the Grass River Twin Falls.
To return, simply retrace your steps back to your vehicle on Tooley Pond Road. Look below for a few pictures and a trail map of this great short hike.
