Hiking in Adirondack Park Ferris Lake Wild Forest Powley-Piseco Road Goldmine Stream Falls
|
The beginning of the trail to the waterfalls on Goldmine Stream is very tough to find as you travel the Powley-Piseco Road. Blazes or tape ribbons on a tree sometimes mark the start of the trail, which is just to the south of an open area across the road. This spot is about 12.5 miles north of NY 29A along Powley-Piseco Road. The GPS coordinates of the start of the trail is N43 19.650 W74 38.453. There is parking along the wide shoulders of the dirt road. It is a 1.2 mile moderate walk to the falls with major wet sections.
This unmarked herd path takes hikers to a series of small waterfalls along Goldmine Stream. This is one of those beautiful, somewhat unknown spots in the Adirondacks. The trail is tough to follow and you will experience some tough wet spots. You will see some really huge trees as you pass an old growth forest. This is a hike recommended for those who don't mind unmarked paths and are good with a compass and map. Look below for a map, picture of the start of the trail (from 2010) and video of the falls. The campsites listed on the map below are from the NY DEC "asset list" from their website. They are primitive roadside sites and some may be overgrown.
For more information on this hike we suggest purchasing the Adirondack Central Trails Map Pack
from the Adirondack Mountain Club.
