Hiking in Adirondack Park West Central Adirondacks Moose River Plains Wild Forest Fawn Lake Trail
|
This short trail utilizes an old logging road to take hikers to the shore of Fawn Lake near a private cottage. The old road is actually a right of way for the private landowner to access his property. This unmarked trail is accessed from the main Moose River Plains Road just prior to mile marker 1, just east of the Limekiln Road entrance aka the western entrance. You'll notice a brownish red gate just off the dirt road. This is the trail.

This trail isn't as well known as the other trails in the area and is more popular with fisherman. The walk is so short, it's a nice leg stretcher before exploring deeper into Moose River Plains. Some bushwhack from Fawn Lake, following the outlet stream to Limekiln Lake.

The trail can be extremely wet during rainy times, however looks to be easy to follow. Parking is along the shoulder of the road (don't block the front of the gate). There is a small pull off further up the road and a large shoulder area near a kiosk.
