Located at the western edge of Franklin County, in the town of Waverly, near the hamlet of Santa Clara, the Azure Mountain fire tower has been standing guard over the northern Adirondacks since the early 1900s.  A steep, short one mile trail takes you to the 2518 foot summit and the fire tower.  There is a 1000 foot elevation gain.  From the summit you can view the northern Adirondack boreal forest and on a clear day even some of the distant high peaks.

The fire tower atop Azure Mountain was restored making this a popular two mile round trip hike. The mountain is located in a remote section of the Adirondacks and is truly in the middle of nowhere.

Directions:  Take NY 11B east from Potsdam to Nicholville, then turn south onto NY 458. About four miles past St. Regis Falls, turn right onto Blue Mountain Road. Continue about 7 miles and watch for the small sign and trailhead parking area on the right.
