Summer is winding down in central New York!  Be sure to bring enough water for your hike!  Be extra careful if your hiking in hot & humid weather and remember that the nights are starting to get cool, especially in the Adirondacks. Take breaks, drink plenty of water!  Did you pack the insect repellent?  What about a head net?  Don't let bugs can ruin you adventure.

Be safe.  Be prepared.  It might save your life!  Carry a day pack complete with plenty of food and water, extra clothing, map and compass, first-aid kit, flashlight/headlamp, sun glasses, sun-block protection, ensolite pads, a stove and extra fuel, and bivy sack or space blankets.

Be safe while on your outdoor adventure.  Be prepared out on the trails.  Know how much daylight you have and how long your hike will take!  Are you prepared for a night in the forest?  Would you be ready?  What's in your backpack?  You can never be too prepared, even with a short hike.

Our GPS gives the sunset for the location we are at.  Its a nice extra feature the Garmin eTrex Vista HCX has.  Don't forget the extra batteries for your GPS and your flashlight!  We use Rechargeable Batteries and usually have about 12-14 hours of life for the GPS (as long as you don't leave the backlight on).  If using a GPS, don't forget to mark your parking area with a waypoint!!!

Use our Hiking Safety webpage to help you plan for a safe hiking adventure.  Hike with your dog? We always have Scrappy our dog on a leash when ever we are hiking. You should too!

Be sure to use CNY Hiking to plan your next hike!  Maybe we'll see ya on the trail!

Tips -->  Wrap some duct tape on your hiking pole so you have it available for any emergency!

Throw some dryer lint in a zip lock baggie to use as a fire starter.  Don't forget matches!

Do you have hand or foot warmers in your backpack?  Yes, even in the summer!

I keep a pair of gloves in my backpack, just in case!  Yes, even in the summer!

Do you have enough water?  What about a high energy snack?

Did you tell someone your hiking plans and when to expect you?
