Connecticut Hill WMA

Van Lone Hill Loop

Directions: Off County Route 6 to Gulf Road (dirt road). Parking area is off to the right of the road near the big boulder.

Notes: This hike has an elevation change (over 1,000 feet total) and is a moderate hike. The best way to do this hike is the way described below. This is a very popular hike. There a few nice waterfalls along the trail (when there is water). A great loop hike. Follow blazes closely!!!!

0.0	1323 ft	From the small parking area on Gulf Road. Continue uphill on the dirt Gulf Road & follow the orange blazes. You will pass a few houses on your left.
0.3	1552 ft	Enter Connecticut Hill WMA. Trail follows old road.
0.75	1697 ft	Highest point along this loop hike.
1.0	1580 ft	Old Jeep Trail junction. Continue straight following orange blazes.
1.25	1432 ft	Cross small stream.
1.4	1532 ft	Reach the dirt School House Road, veer left (straight) & follow road. Pass foundation soon.
2.0	1562 ft	Reach dirt Todd Road. Turn right and follow road steeply down hill.
2.1	1498 ft	Cross bridge, turn right and enter woods following orange blazes, soon cross footbridge.
2.4	1477 ft	Trail veers left away from creek/ravine, ascending steeply. This section can be hard to follow.
2.5	1588 ft	Reach Finger Lakes/North Country Trail. Turn right and follow white blazes. Trail Register.
2.75	1574 ft	Trail veers right and begins to descend steeply. Follow white blazes.
3.65	1486 ft	Old foundation on right, then left. Trail veers right and follows old road steeply down hill.
3.95	1243 ft	Cross footbridge.
4.05	1248 ft	Cross another footbridge. small waterhole & waterfall on your right. Follow old road back to parking area. Cayuta Creek is on your left the whole way.
5.6	1323 ft	Big boulder and small parking area along Gulf Road. End of this loop hike.
