Labrador Hollow Unique Area

Tinker
Falls

Located in the 1483 acre Labrador Hollow Unique Area is the beautiful main 50 foot Tinker Falls with its impressive natural rock amphitheater above a 30 foot rocky cascade. The falls are most spectacular during the spring thaw and after a major rain storm. The falls can be reached for viewing from a short accessible trail from NY 91.

A large parking lot off NY 91 marks the trailhead for Tinker Falls.  It is located south of Labrador Crossing Road, just north of the Onondaga/Cortland County line on the west side of the road. This is also the trailhead for the Skyline Trail, the "Hang Glider Spot on Jones Hill" and the North Country National Scenic Trail, which actually passes nearly directly above the waterfall. There is another parking area about 300 feet further south along NY 91. If these parking areas are full look below for another option to Tinker Falls or try one of many other hikes in this area.

***Please DO NOT PARK ALONG the shoulders of NY 91***

The Tinker Falls Trail begins across NY 91 at the kiosk. Handicap parking is available on that side of the road where the trail begins. The accessible trail follows along Tinker Falls Creek, which is on your right as you walk along the path.  You may notice the steep walls begin to surround you as you get further away from the kiosk. A few benches are available along the trail for those who'd like to take a break. The trail is very easy with a very gentle grade and can be enjoyed by everyone in your family.

The accessible trail ends at 0.25 miles from the kiosk. There is a partial view of the falls from here. The trail continues as it crosses the creek and then climbs on some impressive and steep stone stairs, built in 2014. The stairs lead toward an area that takes you behind the falls. The trail ascends more steep rock stairs that lead to the blue blazed North Country Trail, near the top of the waterfalls. Remember that the rocks are very slippery and can be dangerous. This part of the trail may not be suited for all members of your family. Turn right on the blue blazed North Country Trail to reach the top of the falls.A left turn on the blue blazed North Country Trail will lead 0.2 miles to a junction of the orange blazed Skyline Trail, which leads steeply down toward NY 91 and creates a loop hike of just under one mile. If you turn right at this junction of the Skyline Trail and continue on the blue blazed North Country Trail, you’ll reach the Jones Hill Vista aka Hang Glider Spot in 0.9 miles or 1.1 miles from Tinker Falls Trail junction.

Directions: From Tully, take NY 80 east to NY 91 south. There is a large parking area on the right side of the road and a smaller handicapped accessible parking area across the road at the start of the trail. The GPS coordinates for the main parking area is N42 46.820 W76 02.182 for those who have a GPS devise in their vehicle. There is another parking area just 300 feet further south along NY 91. Please DO NOT PARK along the shoulders of NY 91.

Are the parking areas full? Then try one of the many other great hikes available in this area. If you are focused on seeing Tinker Falls, then may we recommend parking at the large parking area at Labrador Pond Nature Trail off Labrador Crossing Road. Then hike along the orange blazed Skyline Trail to Tinker Falls. It's about two miles one way, however it is secluded and an easy hike. Also check out the Nature Trail while you are there!
