The 2663 acre Tassel Hill State Forest is now known as the Albert J. Woodford Memorial State Forest, located in the southern part of Oneida County.  The state forest features the highest point in Oneida County at 1945 feet, Tassel Hill.  A popular destination in the state forest is Chittning Pond fishing pier and picnic area, located just of US 20, four miles west of Bridgewater and four miles east of Waterville.

A little known feature in this state forest are Frostbite Falls, a seasonal waterfall on Blair Brook, located southwest of the summit of Tassel Hill.

Next time your driving along US 20, be sure to pack a picnic and take a break at the Chittning Pond picnic area.  After your picnic, take a stroll along the eastside of the pond.

Directions

To access the forest take US 20, four miles west of Bridgewater and four miles east of Waterville.  There are seasonal roads that take visitors inside the state forest. Hardscrabble Road is washout out (as of 2012) and Upper White Street is a really rough road that can be barely driven on by 4x4 vehicles. Look below for maps of this state forest.
