The trailhead for Snowy Mountain is on NY 30 south of the town of Indian Lake.   It is a hike of about 3.5 miles one way with an elevation gain of 2034 feet.  The first about 2.4 miles is a pleasant walk in the woods which traverses over to and then ascends a major drainage of the mountain.

You cross the stream several times while climbing 600+ feet in the process. The stream crossings on this trail should give hikers no problems in the dry parts of summer and the fall, and it is no problem during the frozen part of winter, but it might be a problem during the runoff of spring.

After the last stream crossing, the real climbing begins in earnest.   The final 1400 feet is ascended in about a mile and a half.   The trail becomes progressively steeper.

Just prior to reaching the 3898 foot summit there is a great view point where everyone should stop to rest and take a break.   The fire tower is just a short walk now to the wooded summit.   The tower is in fine condition, and the view is excellent.   The high peaks are visible to the northeast.
