Guppy Falls

The Town of Skaneateles obtained land for preservation and recreational purposes that was simply named the Skaneateles Conservation Area.  The area main feature is the 25 foot Guppy Falls and there are hiking trails throughout the property, allowing visitors to easily explore the area.  The Town of Skaneateles has a nice trail map available from their website.

There are picnic tables, a picnic shelter, a couple of ponds that you can fish with a catch and release policy.  The map features campsites and there is a lean to, however there is no overnight camping allowed as well as no open fires (according to a sign at the kiosk).  There is an observation deck with nice views.

A hike to Guppy Falls is featured in the book Best Easy Day Hikes Syracuse.  With the numerous trails within the SCA and a real good trail map for visitors to use, you can create many different hikes to enjoy.  The trails looked well used and maintained when I visited in May 2011.  Look below for pictures as well as a couple of videos of this great place to explore.

Directions: From Syracuse take NY 5 WEST to NY 321 SOUTH.  Turn left on Old Seneca TRPK.  There are multiple parking areas on Gully Road (second right off Old Seneca TRPK), including the trailhead for Guppy Falls (reached in about one mile).  You can continue on Old Seneca TRPK to the main parking area for the upper section, which includes the pond and the observation deck.

For those who have a GPS devise in their vehicle, the GPS coordinates for the trailhead for Guppy Falls is N42 58.085 W76 23.409 and the GPS coordinates for the main parking area on Old Seneca TRPK is N42 58.776 W76 23.083.
