Park Trail Map Campground Map
The 215 foot Taughannock Falls plunges past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. This waterfall is 33 feet taller than Niagara Falls. Gorge and rim hiking trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail. Many visitors do not realize there is another huge gorge that is located behind the main falls.
There is more to explore at this state park than the main waterfall, although you can't visit this park without seeing the main waterfall. Check out our Hiking Trails at Taughannock Falls State Park page for information on the hiking trails in this state park.
For those looking to explore this state park without paying the entrance fee, then park at either the Falls Overlook parking area on Taughannock Park Road or the small parking area on Jacksonville Road.
Check out the photo of a rock slide that occurred on 11/4/2010 from the NYfalls.com website. The panoramic picture above is from our visit to the park on 10/27/2010. This is one of those state parks that you can visit over and over again. This park is another one of our favorites.
Directions: NY 89, eight miles north of Ithaca.
Taughannock Gorge is located behind the famous waterfalls, in the western section of the park.
