North Country Trail in Pennsylvania
Allegheny National Forest
to US 6
This 7.5 mile section of the North Country Trail features spectacular views of the Kinzua Arm of the Allegheny Reservoir and the Kinzua Creek Valley. The trail also passes oil and gas wells as well as traveling thru huge rocks. Part of the trail travels along the boundary with private land.
The start of this section begins south of Red Bridge as the trail climbs one of the steepest hills in Allegheny National Forest. The trail climbs 650 feet in one mile. Your rewarded with a real nice view from the trail. The trail crosses four small streams on its way to crossing Bliss Hill Road. There is some shoulder parking available here.
Soon you'll start noticing oil and gas wells, then the huge rocks the trail passes by. The trail gently descends to US 6 and the end of this section. There is a large parking area at US 6 where the trail crosses. For thru hikers, there is a restaurant and small grocery store about 1.2 miles south of Red Bridge on PA 321 as well as a campground just north of Red Bridge.
