NOTE:  This information is based from the information gathered from the DEC plan available at the DEC website.  The info below is for just part of what will be the North Country Trail in the Adirondacks.

Hoffman Notch Wilderness is a 36,000 acre forest preserve in southern Essex County. This Wilderness is connected to the communities of Schroon Lake, North Hudson, Minerva and Newcomb. Many people enjoy hiking to the top of Mt. Severance, skiing through Hoffman Notch, fishing in Bailey and Rogers Ponds, canoeing on Cheney Pond, or hunting throughout the area.

The North Country National Scenic Trail enters the Hoffman Notch Wilderness Area on its southwestern boundary. The trail will follow an abandoned road (not shown on map below) north to Bailey Pond for approximately 2.6 miles.

At Bailey Pond the North Country National Scenic Trail intersects and follows the Bailey Pond Trail to its intersection with the Hoffman Notch Trail. The North Country National Scenic Trail will turn north for one mile. At the next trail intersection, the North Country National Scenic Trail will turn east onto the Big Pond to Hoffman Notch Trail for approximately 6.3 miles.

The North Country National Scenic Trail leaves the Big Pond to Hoffman Notch Trail in the vicinity of North Pond and will require construction of new trail northeast towards US 9 on the Hoffman Notch Wilderness eastern boundary, north of the Village of Schroon Falls.  Hopefully the new trail will include the fantastic views from Jones Hill.
