Hiking in Madison County New York State Lands Muller Hill
|
The 3090 acre Muller Hill State Forest is located in the Town of Georgetown in Madison County. The present day Camp Georgetown was a Civilian Conservation Corps facility and is now the site of a State Correctional facility located on the southern portion of the forest. Also on the forest is the historical site of the home of Louis A. Muller, a French noblemen who settled here in 1808 when he ostensibly fled the wrath of Napoleon. Not much remains of the home.
Over 7.5 miles of forest access roads provide seasonal access for motor vehicles and are used by snowmobilers and cross country skiers in winter. A section of the Link Trail passes through the western part of the forest. This is a marked hiking trail that links the Finger Lakes Trail with the Erie Canal Towpath.
