Mount Redfield at 4606 feet, is the fifteenth highest peak in the Adirondacks and is also a 46er.  This peak was named after William C Redfield, who was a member of the first expedition to Mount Marcy in 1837.  He was also the first to say Marcy was the highest point in New York state.

The mountain is mostly tree covered, however it does have a dramatic summit with pretty nice views to the south from the rock summit.  The trail to the summit is a herd path that starts at the Uphill Lean To.  The herd path ascends Uphill Brook to past a waterfall.  From there the path to the summit veers right away from Uphill Brook and the ascent will become steeper.

The overall ascent to Mount Redfield is 3225 feet and most that hike to Redfield start at the Upper Works trailhead following the trail along Calamity Brook to the Flowed Lands.  This is a very long day hike at over 16 miles.  There are numerous lean to shelters if you decide to do this as an overnight hike.
