Mexico Point

This small, obscure town park is not listed on the New York State Parks official website, however the Town of Mexico website calls the park Mexico Point State Park.  Mexico Point State Park has a nature trial, a loop trail, ruins of an old inn and views of Lake Ontario.  There are picnic tables, grills, bathrooms, a pavilion and a small beach.  This state park is located in Texas, NY on the shores of Lake Ontario.  There is no fee to enter the park.  It is a small however nice little park.

The nature trail leads 0.3 miles to "Spy Island" and the final resting place/monument for Silas Towne.  The trail does pass close by the Little Salmon River and you might see some of the locals fishing near the trail.  The nature trail is not marked, but is well worn and easy to follow.

The 0.7 mile Roops Loop is in need of some trail maintenance as well as some TLC when we visited on 6/3/09.  The trail does have some markings (arrows), but they are hard to follow at times.  The trail is starting to become overgrown at certain points.  If the trail was maintained better, this would be a more enjoyable hike.

Look below for some pictures from the state park, a short video and a map.  You can find more info on this park at the Town of Mexico parks website.

Directions: Take the Mexico exit (Exit 34) off from Route 81, onto NY 104 toward Mexico (West) for just under 6 miles.  Turn right (North) onto NY 3 (Scenic Ave.) for 4 miles, then turn left onto NY 104B (West) for about 1 and a half miles.  Then turn right onto Mexico Point Dr W and you will find the park at the bend of the road.
