Hiking in Madison County Link Trail Muller Hill State Forest Maripossa State Forest
|
This section of the Link Trail begins off NY 80 just east of Sheds. The trail begins running parallel to NY 80 on private Property before turning right and ascending up the hill. The trail reaches a newly cleared area and turns right following an old woods road. Your following yellow blazes.
The trail ascends to its highest point on the continuous trail at 2022 feet. The trail turns left and follows a section along a property boundary before entering Muller Hill State Forest. The trail continues to ascend in the state forest before reaching a spur trail that leads to Carpenter Road (0.6 mile away to the west). From here the trail turns left.
The trail now descends toward the abandoned section of Chapman Road and crosses Tioughnioga Creek. The trail now ascends toward dirt Muller Hill Road, crosses the road and follows seasonal Wood Rd (Bundy Rd). The trail continues to follow the abandoned section of Wood Road until it comes out of the state forest and back onto a driveable section of Wood Road.
Looking back towards NY 80 along the Link Trail
The trail follows Wood Road to Crumb Hill Road, where it turns left following the road for 0.1 mile before turning right off the road and enters Maripossa State Forest. The trail now winds until reaching the junction of the white blazed Finger Lakes Trail at 7.2 miles of hiking in this section. Turning left will take you to Bucks Brook State Forest and eventually to the Catskills, The Long Path and if you wanted to, the Appalachian Trail. Turning right will take you to Cuyler Hill State Forest, the junction of the North Country Trail, to Pennsylvania and eventually if you wanted to, all the way to North Dakota.
