A 3.5 mile round trip hike takes you past spectacular views of Letchworth Canyon, amazing views of waterfalls, a walk under the high railroad bridge and an unbelievable view from the top of Upper Falls.  You'll pass an area next to an old canal that shows evidence of recent beaver activity.  You'll see the remnants of the old railroad that once rolled along parts of the trail.  All this from a wonderful 1.75 mile section of the Letchworth Trail.

The Letchworth Trail is located on the secluded eastern part of Letchworth State Park and runs 25 miles, mostly inside the state park.  The trail passes by the Mount Morris Dam and the Finger Lakes Trail Conference Service Center.

This great hike starts from the parking area off Park Road, just past the entrance for the "Parade Grounds".  Park Road is located of NY 436.  After just 0.1 mile of walking along an old railroad bed, you start to see views of the canyon on your right.  There is a short path (0.15 miles) that leads to a ledge with a spectacular view of the canyon and Genesee River.

There are numerous side paths that lead to many spectacular views.  Beware of the sheer cliffs of the canyon.  Be extra careful during slippery conditions.  Follow the yellow blazes of the Letchworth Trail under the high railroad bridge and continue on along the river, up a small hill, past a gate to an opening with a view of the river and Portageville (see panorama below) after 1.75 miles.  To return, simply retrace your steps.
