Hiking in Adirondack Park Moose River Plains Wild Forest Helldiver Pond
|

Here is an easy, pleasant short walk to a scenic pond. The toughest part of this hike is to reach this far away and remote pond located in Moose River Plains Wild Forest. The trail is located at the end of a short 0.3 mile spur road from the main Moose River Plains Road, 8.1 miles from its western entrance or 13.1 miles from the eastern entrance.
There are a few primitive campsites along the spur road, however most do not look to welcoming except for the handicapped accessible campsite at the end of the spur road (campsite #61). This campsite is located at the small parking area at the end of the spur road and also has an accessible port-a-potty. The are numerous other attractive primitive campsites in Moose River Plains Wild Forest.
The Helldiver Pond Trail is an accessible trail with crushed rock/gravel as the main base. The short 0.3 mile walk to the pond and back has an overall elevation gain of 4 feet. There is a small dock at the end of the trail that is perfect for kayak access, fishing or just gazing out over the pretty little pond. Beware that the water is surprisingly deep just off the dock area.
Look below for a few pictures, a video and a map of this hike. You can find more information on this trail and others in this area from the book Adirondack Trails: West-Central Region
. This hike is more of a short leg stretcher. Try camping in the area at one of the numerous primitive sites and explore the numerous hiking trails in the area.
