The trailhead is found by taking NY 73 south out of Keene and a right on John Brook Lane.  At the end of the road there is a DEC parking area called the garden.  Blue trail from the Garden over the Brothers to Big Slide, then to Yard Mountain for a 4.4 mile hike and an elevation gain of over 3000 feet. 

The trail over Yard Mountain is very nice, noticeably less worn and eroded, probably due to Yard Mountain not being one of the 46 even though it is over 4,000 feet.  Out and back is a 8.8 mile hike.  There are other options available to create a longer loop hike which could include a overnight stay at one of the lean tos in the area.
