The Appalachian Trail travels about 161 miles in New Hampshire over some of the most difficult terrain hikers will experience anywhere along the AT.  You'll find rough and steeper ground more frequent in New Hampshire as the AT travels over 17 mountains with peaks over 4000 feet including the famous 6288 foot Mount Washington.  Welcome to the White Mountains.

The trail in New Hampshire may be difficult, but it is also probably the most rewarding with spectacular views.  You'll find yourself above the tree line at many spots along the trail and exposed to the elements.  Snow can fall on Mount Washington at anytime of the year, even in the summer!  The wind on exposed peaks can be brutal at times.  Remember that weather conditions can change rapidly on these open, exposed summits and each year hikers die!  Be PREPARED.

Memorable places along the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire include Dartmouth College, Moose Mountain, Holts Ledge, Mount Mist, Mount Moosilauke, Mount Wolf, Kinsman Mountain, Little Haystack Mountain, Mount Lincoln, Mount Lafayette, Mount Garfield, South Twin Mountain, Mount Guyot, Zeacliff, Webster Cliffs, Mount Webster, Mount Jackson, Mount Pierce, Mount Franklin, Mount Washington, Edmands Col, Mount Madison, Lowes Bald Spot, Wildcat Mountain, Carter Dome, Zeta Pass, South Carter Mountain, Middle Carter Mountain, North Carter Mountain, Mount Moriah, Mount Hayes, Cascade Mountain and Mount Success.
